FA confirm Northern League rivals must play again after Vase match abandoned

The Football Association have confirmed that the abandoned FA Vase tie between EBAC Northern League clubs South Shields and Morpeth Town will be replayed “on or before this coming Saturday”.

There were eighty two minutes on the clock in the original fixture between the two sides when, seconds after Liam Henderson put the visitors 4-2 up, the floodlights went out at Mariners Park.

Bedlington Terriers threw away points from a winning position once again, but managed to hang on to claim a crucial point against Bishop Auckland at Welfare Park.

Liam Hudson tapped home from close range on 13 minutes before Jonathan Wright scored possibly the goal of the season eight minutes later.

The visitors gave themselves a chance when Andrew Johnson pulled one back on 29 minutes, and the game was all square once again when Arjun Purewal headed home powerfully. (more…)

Dan Staples’ mistake proved to be decisive as Bedlington Terriers lost to West Auckland Town, sliding to the foot of the table in the process.

Gray proud after Highwaymen win epic Vase tie

They say “good things come to those who wait”, well whoever “they” are, have been proven right in the case of Morpeth Town boss Nicky Gray.

The EBAC Northern League side finally got to play their eagerly-anticipated FA Vase Third Round tie against South Shields at the ninth attempt on Wednesday night, after a combination of heavy snow, frosty pitches and constant rain put paid to the previous eight attempts.

And once the tie was finally played, it did not disappoint.

Bedlington Terriers were put the sword as relegation-threatened West Allotment Celtic ran out comfortable winners at Whitley Park.

Michael Ball put Celtic, who are now mathematically safe, ahead when he rounded off a neat counter attack, the score was doubled 15 minutes later when Sean Reid produced a top-draw free-kick that sailed past the keeper. (more…)
