With a strong looking team, the Stan were out to build on their 4 successive home victories and gain revenge for their last home defeat which was against the Terriers in the Ernest Armstrong Cup. There were no changes from the last match 2 weeks ago although Kye Waters made his debut from the bench on his return to the club from Walker Central. Jon Jon Wright was facing the team he started the season with, and received a few taunts from the Terriers’ fans as a result, and he had been playing for them when the Stan won 3-1 at Bedlington in August. The Stan Army’s post mortem into the 95th minute defeat at Team North in our last game concluded that it was the strength of the respective bench’s which was the difference between the 2 teams. The Stan had brought on Johnson, who lasted 5 minutes, and 2 promising 17 year olds whilst the students bench was full of experience. On Saturday, the Stan bench was equally experienced and was key to turning a drab draw into 3 valuable points. The pre-match buzz was all about the return of goal scoring Jonathan Wright from Bishop Auckland and Jordan Ray from long term injury and loan at Walker Central. There were 4 changes in total from Team North with Robinson and Deagle returning from injury, replacing  Yates and Jones, and Errington and Riley moving to Blyth Town.  (more…)

It looked like the Stan would break the curse of never getting a point from Team North in the Northern League but the students snatched an undeserved injury time winner. There were 2 changes from the boxing day with new signing Michael Riley from Newton Aycliffe making his debut on the wing. The Stan were still missing injured striker Dan Robinson.  (more…)

Saturday 26 December 2016

On a cold and windy, but sunny boxing day morning a crowd of 135 turned out to see the Stan end 2016 with a home win. There were few Xmas jumpers on show but lots of new club hats as the Stan fielded an unchanged side from the one that thumped Darlington RA 8-0 last Saturday.  (more…)

Saturday 17th December 2016

The last game before Christmas saw manager Derek Thompson revert to a 4-4-2 with James, Fulcher and Holland replacing Williams, Johnson and Robinson. The loss of leading scorer Robinson was a massive blow as Blackett was also still missing meaning reliance on Yates and Jones up front. Right Back Ali Stoddart was making his 100th Northern League Appearance for the club. The visitors, in relegation trouble but buoyant from a win at Crook last week, included Dan Pigg and Chris Tarn who have 21 league goals between them this season. The pitch, which had caused the last 2 games to be postponed, looked heavy and started to cut up from kick off.  (more…)

We are barely into the mammoth run of winter home games that has seen the Stan’s fair share of disappointment first against the physically resolute and disciplined Easington Colliery and the following defeat by a dogged Tow Law side who came with a plan and stuck to it. With the 3rd home game in 8 days against fancied league challenging and 3rd place opposition, you would be forgiven in thinking the Stan might not overturn their current poor home form against the Synners. There were 5 changes from Wednesday night. (more…)

Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup Round 2, Wednesday 7 December 2016

After Saturday’s fantastic win over Billingham Synthonia, the Stan Army were hopeful that the team had shaken off their poor home form and were looking forward to cup success. There was only 1 change from Saturday as the Stan took on a much-changed Terriers team from the one they beat 3-1 in the league in August. (more…)

On a cold and blustery night, which the opposition from high in the Durham hills should be more used to, there were no excuses though for the Stan as their poor home form continued to contradict their good away form. There was one change from the team that lost at home on Saturday with Wear replacing Williams.  (more…)

Sat 19th November 2016

The Stan Army braved the freezing conditions for the trip to Norton and were rewarded with a fine 3 – 1 win although it was to be a sad day for Norton and not just because of the result. The win, which was the 9th from 14 away league games, was well deserved but hard fought as a spirited Norton pinned the Stan back for long periods in the final quarter. The Stan lined up in their Orange shirts with four changes from the previous defeat at Hebburn with James, Errington, Johnson and Walton replacing Dixon, Williams, Bailey and Blackett. Jack Errington was making his debut for the Stan after signing from Newcastle Benfield and the former Burnley centre half stepped straight into the side as Graham Williams was suspended. (more…)
