Harrogate Town star facing months on sidelines after “severe” knee injury
Harrogate Town midfielder LLoyd Kerry is set to undergo an operation, after sustaining a severe knee injury during our fixture against Chorley this weekend
Following initial treatment at The CNG Stadium on Saturday, the club moved quickly to ensure Lloyd received a scan at his local hospital earlier today (Monday).
Dronfield Town 1 Pontefract Colliery 1 (11/3/17).
For the second consecutive Saturday I travelled down to South Yorkshire. Last week it was Penistone Church (near Barnsley) this week it was South of Sheffield to Dronfield Town (which is actually in Derbyshire). (more…)
Penistone Church 3 Rossington Main 0 (4/3/17)
I started the week with a trip to Wealdstone in mind but engineering works on the trains put paid to that. I would have had to endure at two and a half hour coach from York back to Newcastle. No thanks. I had then pencilled in Liversedge but on the way there the twitter feed came on saying the game was off. Plan C was put into operation and that was to go on Pensitone Church FC instead with fingers crossed that game as still on. I went by car today and it was a relatively straight journey down the A1/M1 with a short turn off for Penistone. Driving into the Town there was an impressive and functioning railway bridge into Pensitone. Amazingly the place had managed to avoid the railway Beeching cuts from 1963. (more…)
Despite Saturday’s 2-1 win over Evo-Stik Premier League promotion rivals Stourbridge making it ten wins from ten games in 2017, Blyth Spartans manager Alun Armstrong isn’t enjoying the selection headaches caused by his side’s fine form.
Robert Dale’s broke the deadlock with a near 30-yard free kick 24 minutes in, before Daniel Maguire found the net for the seventh consecutive game just before the break to give Spartans a commanding lead.
Hebburn Town launch plea for support as threat of closure grows
EBAC Northern League Division Two club Hebburn Town have made a passionate plea for the local community to get behind them as falling attendances threaten the immediate future of the club.
The resurgance of South Shields seems to have had a negative impact on their South Tyneside neighbours, with one recent fixture having only sixteen people in attendance.
Former Boro and Ipswich Town star Armstrong relishing life in the Spartans dugout
Following in the footsteps of a manager that has helped a club achieve great things is an unenviable task for any person willing to take on the challenge.
Throw in the fact that the manager taking on the challenge is in his first managerial role in senior football, then the task appears even more daunting.
Heaton Stannington 4-0 Bedlington Terriers
Saturday 4 February 2017
With a strong looking team, the Stan were out to build on their 4 successive home victories and gain revenge for their last home defeat which was against the Terriers in the Ernest Armstrong Cup. There were no changes from the last match 2 weeks ago although Kye Waters made his debut from the bench on his return to the club from Walker Central. Jon Jon Wright was facing the team he started the season with, and received a few taunts from the Terriers’ fans as a result, and he had been playing for them when the Stan won 3-1 at Bedlington in August. When is a visit to a new ground not a visit to a new ground? That is the question. I was actually here at the Meadowbank Stadium about 36 years ago. Then a team called Meadowbank Thistle was in existence but the club moved and changed their name to Livingston. I had not seen Edinburgh City play or have a home programme in my collection, so in my own mind I had to go back. Maybe a bit hair splitting, but there you go. I still do not think I am like a few anorak ground hoppers who do not include a visit to a new ground unless a goal is scored! At least I am not that bad. (more…)
