FA confirm Northern League rivals must play again after Vase match abandoned
The Football Association have confirmed that the abandoned FA Vase tie between EBAC Northern League clubs South Shields and Morpeth Town will be replayed “on or before this coming Saturday”.
There were eighty two minutes on the clock in the original fixture between the two sides when, seconds after Liam Henderson put the visitors 4-2 up, the floodlights went out at Mariners Park.
A broken generator was found to be the issue and after a delay of forty five minutes the match officials decided to abandon the tie.
Now the Football Association have confirmed that the tie will now be replayed, with the winners facing an away tie at Team Solent in the last sixteen.
The FA stated “As the abandonment was through no fault of either Club, it shall be played on the same ground, subject to The FA being satisfied that the problem with the floodlights is resolved and that measures are in place to ensure that the match can be completed under floodlight conditions, on or before next Saturday. This is in accordance with FA Vase Rule 11(c)(i)”
The FA also confirmed that the red card shown to South Shields midfielder Julio Arca will stand, although it is as yet unclear whether the former Sunderland star will be able to play in the rearranged tie.
The draw for the last sixteen of the Buildbase FA Vase took place on Monday lunchtime.
The draw in full:
1 Cleethorpes Town v Atherton Collieries
2 Southall v Exmouth
3 Bromsgrove Sporting v Bristol Manor Farm or Melksham Town
4 Crowborough Athletic v Coleshill Town
5 Hinckley v Buckland Athletic
6 Newport Pagnell Town v Sunderland RCA
7 Ely City v Sporting Khalsa
8 Team Solent v South Shields or Morpeth Town
Winners of the Fifth Round proper ties will receive £1,875 from the FA’s prize fund.
