Allen – “We fully deserved to win”

Marc Allen was awarded man-of-the-match on his full debut for Bedlington Terriers on Saturday and he believed that they “fully deserved” to win the game.

The 28-year-old played a key role in the centre of the midfield and he believes that despite going down to 10-men, the side were in control from start to finish.

“I thought we deserved it from start to finish to be honest, first 20 minutes we were on top and they seemed to be rattled. The two goals we deserved at the time they came,” Allen said.

“When we had the man sent off I thought it was going to be a tough afternoon, but to be honest I think we deserved the third goal and maybe even more.

“Fez was quick to shuffle things around when we had the man sent off, he got Keelan on at right-back and Wally and Liam made it stick up front which took the pressure off the midfield and defence.”

Manager Andy Ferrell was full of praise for his new signing, claiming he looked comfortable in possession and reliable in the centre of the midfield.

Ferrell said: “Marc Allen will 100% sleep tonight, he covered every blade of grass in the midfield. He was comfortable on the ball and the reason I went for Marc was because I knew he’d be up for it with it being against his old club.

“He never gave the ball away once, we have got games coming thick and fast and he will pay a key role in our season along with many others.”

The midfielder was quick to complement all three goal-scorers, claiming Marc Walton’s strike came at a pinnacle time in the game.

Allen added: “I think Wally’s strike was at a crucial time, it was a great finish, that was a killer one for me, at 2-0 we were comfortable and they didn’t look like scoring.

“The third goal from Baxter was brilliant, he came on and stretched them and that was the icing on the cake.”
