Casswell delighted as Leek squad commit
Leek Town manager Lee Casswell has been busy re-building his squad, re-signing no fewer than eight new players for the upcoming Evo-Stik Northern Premier League campaign.
The signing spree follows the Blues boss, pictured, agreeing terms with Ashley Jackson, Anthony Danylyk, Nial Maguire, Dan Shelley and Tim Grice and bringing in experienced keeper Chris Martin from Mickleover Sports.
Another keeper, Alex Langdridge, leads the new arrivals at Harrison Park. The 23-year-old was at Uttoxeter Town last season, has also been on the books at Burton Albion and Gresley and Casswell believes he is more than capable of challenging Martin for the No 1 shirt.
Four more of the players were also at Uttoxeter last season. Casswell tried to sign Doug Price, a 20-year-old central defender, last season and he played one game for the First Division South club in the Intrego Doodson Sport Cup against eventual winners Warrington Town.
Midfielder Liam Sowter, 26, has also turned out for Mickleover Sports and Rocester while forward James Curley, 25, was on the books at Stoke City and has since played for Kidsgrove Athletic before scoring over 30 goals last season. Winger Matt Redshaw completes the contingent. The 22-year-old former Rocester player is expected to be a favourite with fans as beats players for fun and loves to score.
The other arrivals are striker Nathan Whitehead who ended last season at Rainworth after a spell at Brigg Town, Dan Brown, another striker who netted more than 20 goals for Rocester last term and defender Sam Bradbury, one of the stars of Norton United’s run in the FA Cup.
Officials at Harrison Park say Casswell is by no means finished in the transfer market and has a number of other irons in the fire with two more signings expected this week ahead of the club’s first pre-season fixture at West Didsbury on Saturday.
