Railway boss signals intent as Thirkwell agrees stay
Harrogate Railway Athletic’s new manager Lee Ashforth has made his first summer signing at the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club.
Ashforth, who stepped up to replace Billy Miller at Station View last week following his departure for Tadcaster Albion, has signalled his intent to build on April’s eighth-placed finish in First Division North next term by securing the services of Dan Thirkwell for another season.
The midfielder is pictured with Ashforth penning a deal that will see him enter his eleventh year at Station View as the club celebrates its 80th anniversary and a Rail spokesman said: “The 2014-15 supporters’ and managers’ player of the year has been pivotal in the successful season just gone, getting better and better as the season progressed.
“The club are delighted to have signed Thirkell, despite interest in him from several other teams and it signals Ashforth’s intent to build on the success of last year. A great start to the summer for Harrogate Railway.”
In other team news, officials also announced that Richard Lawrence, Adam Baker and Jordan Armstrong have left the club.
The much respected Lawrence had worked closely with Miller and Ashforth as part of the club’s management team over the past few years.
