Bedlington Terriers most successful manager Keith Perry has been awarded a testimonial match for his lifelong services and achievements with the club.

The game itself brings together players from his years with the club, with the 1999 FA Vase squad managed by Keith and Tony Lowery taking on a Bedlington All-Star side managed by Steve Bowey.

He said: “It is great recognition, for me it a chance to say thank you and to meet up with all of the lads that was part of this success.

“It was a sad day when I had to pack in due to my health, but it is fantastic to be awarded with a testimonial.”

He was in charge for 21 years and took the side to the second round of the FA Cup in 1999, beating Colchester United 4-1 along the way, not forgetting the famous day at Wembley that same season.

Keith’s assistant during his tenure with the club Tony Lowery said: “It is what the man deserves, he is a Bedlington lad and he is proud of what he has achieved, there is no one that deserves this tribute more than Keith Perry.

“He has put his heart and soul into the club and he was a smashing bloke to work with, his motivation skills were second to none and he always managed to get that little bit more out of players and they all wanted to play for us.”

Former chairman and Brother Dave Perry said: “He fully deserves it, there was times as chairman when he motivated me as well as the players, for what he has done the club it speaks for itself.

“I’m as proud as punch for him, and I have never been as proud as the day my brother led his hometown team out at Wembley, I can’t wait for the day to come.”

The match is on Saturday 2 May with kick-off at 2pm, tickets are priced at £5 and all proceeds from the game will be going to the Northern Counties Kidney Research fund.
