Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Witton Albion have stripped skipper Anthony Gardner of the captaincy and transfer listed the defender for his part in an incident following last Saturday’s home win against Ramsbottom United.
The Premier Division club’s officials announced they’d taken disciplinary action against the 24-year-old full-back in a short statement released on Friday.
The club said: “Defender Anthony Gardner has today been subject to disciplinary action by Witton Albion following an incident that occurred on Saturday after the win over Ramsbottom.
“As a result of this discipline Gardner has been stripped of the captaincy, received the maximum sanctions possible under the terms of his contract and placed onto the transfer list with immediate effect.”
Gardner, pictured, has made nearly 200 appearances for the club since signing for Witton in January 2011 from Cammell Laird where he also played under manager Tony Sullivan.
