Match Report: Harrogate Railway – Darlington (Mark Doherty)

FT: Harrogate Railway 5-1 Darlington 1883Nathan Cartman returned to Station View with his Darlington team looking to continue their push for an automatic promotion spot with three points and retain the top spot in the league.

In front of a large crowd, Darlington settled into the game quickly and looked determined going forward. Railway started nervously and uncharacteristically gave away the ball a little too easily at times during the first half.

Both teams had chances to score, with Darlington hitting the base of the post and Jerry Yates for Railway going on a great run, rounding the keeper only for his shot to be cleared by the Darlington defenders.

It was Darlington who struck first with a well-worked goal, going in at the break one goal to the good.

The second half started well for Railway, pressing the visitors back to try and get an equaliser. However, it was Darlington who extended their lead and from that point on their confidence and quality football allowed them to extend their lead, eventually netting five goals.

Railway didn’t give up at any point, kept on believing in themselves and managed to get on the score sheet with a wonder strike by Fatlum Ibrihimi. But it would only ever be a consolation goal.

Congratulations to Darlington for an excellent display of football and a brilliant result. There cannot be any arguments about today’s result and in my opinion, probably the standout team in the league – playing some consistent and entertaining football.
